The conservative war against women in this country is appalling and disgusting. This man not only wants to totally ban morning-after pill access, he is telling you that women don’t get pregnant from getting raped, because women’s bodies have mysterious secret ways of preventing that from happening. Despite the high statistics proving that it happens ALL THE TIME. Over 31,000 pregnancies occur as a result of rape each year. This man is basically saying that it’s next to impossible that those were “legitimate” rapes, inferring that yes, those sluts were totally into it.
Telling a woman who has just gotten pregnant because of a violent rape that she couldn’t possibly be pregnant unless she WANTED it to happen is horrifying. It’s horrifying that a candidate for senator would say things like that, with a smug grin on his face, to the assaulted women of the world who are forced to give birth to unwanted children fathered by attackers and violent strangers. Their fear, shame and feelings of being unclean are compounded by some privileged white male bastard coming down off his podium to tell them that HE knows how women’s bodies work better than they do, and he knows if they got pregnant, it’s only because they secretly wanted to be raped. This kind of opinion would be horrific enough in a fellow citizen. It CANNOT be allowed to have a place in our government.
Follow this story, get off your ass, and take one hour out of your life when the time comes to VOTE. You can’t look at this man’s face and say to yourself, “Sure, that’s the guy I want in charge of things. I want him to help make laws.” Don’t assume someone else will vote against him and you don’t need to bother. Get up and VOTE. Do it for your mom, or your sister, or your daughter or your niece or your girlfriend or your wife. Because if you don’t vote, you don’t get to complain later when people like this are making laws that you hate.
